Verbena bonariensis

Summer is coming

After a cool spring, we have had a few glimpses of summer over the past few weeks with sunshine filled days that make it a pleasure to be in the garden. The recent rain has been welcomed by the plants and has resulted in rampant grass growth and the weeds needs to be kept in check.

We have the largest selection of plants ever at Greenshutters with masses of herbaceous perennials (cottage garden plants), shrubs, trees, climbers and bedding plants. As a result, we had our busiest month ever in May. Many thanks to all our customers who have supported us so far this year.

A new framework has been built in the polytunnel to display a selection of colourful hanging baskets. These are now available starting at £14.99. If you prefer, we are able to plant bespoke baskets to your requirements or re-fill baskets you already have with a colourful selection of basket plants.

Available now, Verbena bonariensis has stunning purple flowers which add colour and structure to the garden. Good for attracting bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects (see image above)

Don’t forget Father’s Day is Sunday 19th June 2016. For a living gift, we can offer a potting service to make up baskets, containers or troughs to your specification. A wonderful present for a special person. We also have gloves, garden tools or National Garden Gift Vouchers that can be used in most garden centres nationwide if you’re not sure what to buy.

By the end of June, we will have native hedging plants in pots available including Beech, Hornbeam, Hawthorn and Field Maple up to 6ft tall. Also available will be 1 metre long troughs of native hedging ready to plant out.

We will continue to have colourful plants all summer to fill any gaps or new borders your create. I hope you enjoy the summer in the garden.
