Cryptomeria Vilmoriana

Magical Conifers – Year-round colour

Conifers provide an invaluable evergreen presence that is much needed in any winter garden when many other plants have lost their leaves. They are an extremely diverse group of plants, and they shine out brighter now than in any other season. Being such a varied group of plants there is a beautiful conifer for every situation. There are dwarf pines such as Pinus mugo ‘Carsten’ & ‘Northern Lights’ that grow no taller than 60cm (2ft) tall that are good for borders or there are conifers that grow, in time, to large, majestic trees such as the Blue Atlantic Cedar (Cedrus atlantica ‘Glauca’),  plus many other sizes in-between.

Conifers are great for adding colour to the garden with foliage coming in gold, silver, blue, red as well as many shades of green.  The brightest golden conifers include Cupressocyparis ‘Gold Rider’ and the golden Lawson’s Cypress ‘Yvonne’, whereas the silver blue of Cupressus arizonica brightens any winter garden.

The range of textures is also impressive with the soft blue foliage of Chamaecyparis ‘Boulevard’ and the swirls of Cryptomeria ‘Spiralis’ to the weeping, feathery foliage of Chamaecyparis ‘Filifera Aurea’ and the spiky foliage of the Spruces and Junipers.

Easy and rewarding to grow, there is one suitable for any spot in your garden.
