Greenshutters Garden Centre Newsletter October 2026
Autumn is here and hopefully we will have some more welcome rain in the next few weeks to revive our gardens.
October brings a whole new wave of rich, vibrant colour to the garden. Our hardy Violas, Pansies and Cyclamen are in flower now and will keep going right through until spring. We also have 6-packs of Sweet William, Polyanthus, Dianthus and Wallflowers, all perfect for freshening up pots, hanging baskets or borders that may be looking a little bare.

Red Maples (e.g. Acer rubrum October Glory), Liquidambar, Mountain Ash (e.g. Sorbus Olympic Flame), Ornamental Pear (Pyrus Chanticleer) and Flowering Cherries (e.g. Prunus Kanzan) are some of the best trees for autumn colour.
Many Japanese Maples also put on a fiery autumn display and Crab Apples and Mountain Ash (Rowan or Sorbus) have colourful berries which provide autumn interest in the garden.
One of my autumn favourites is the Burning Bush – Euonymus alatus – that turns fiery bright red in October. The Flowering Dogwoods (Cornus kousa) are also a standout autumn feature with their strawberry-like fruits and red autumn leaves.

There are also herbaceous perennials that are still flowering or showing colour such as Salvia, Rudbeckia, Echinacea and Heuchera and we have a special offer below for Greenshutters Garden Club Members.
October is a fantastic time to get spring-flowering bulbs in the ground such as Daffodils (Narcissi), Tulips, Crocus, Hyacinth and Alliums. Plant now and you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful display of colour come spring.
Pop in to see our latest range of colourful plants. Our knowledgeable team are always on hand to help.
Enjoy your garden and we hope to see you soon.
