Autumn is showing its fabulous colours this year and there are many trees such as Liquidambars, Flowering Cherries, Red Maples and Ginkgo putting on a fabulous display around the nursery and garden centre.

Our polytunnel that houses our bedding and seasonal plants has been recovered and is now looking as good as new, please bear with us while we get all the stock back in and displayed. We also have our new multispan growing polytunnel being erected this month so it is an exciting time for us.

We have our new batch of roses potted and available now. We always try and stock varieties that stay healthy and have a good scent. These include varieties such as Absolutely Fabulous, Hot Chocolate, Blue for You and Mango. Additionally, we have Special Occasion Roses such as Happy Golden, Silver and Ruby Wedding, Mum in a Million, Grandpa’s Rose and Birthday Girl. Climbing and Rambling Roses such as Arthur Bell, Albertine and Crimson Cascade are also in stock.

We also have a new range of soft fruit available including early, mid season and late raspberry canes, ideal for planting now. Red, yellow and green Gooseberries, the Thornless Blackberry Waldo, Redcurrants, Blackcurrants, Boysenberries, Loganberries are also in stock.

Christmas trees will be available from Thursday 27th November. We will be giving a Greenshutters Voucher worth £10 with every Christmas tree purchased. The voucher will be redeemable between January and April 2026.

Spotlight on Sorbus: The Versatile Mountain Ash

Mountain Ash, or Sorbus (also commonly known as Rowan), is an elegant, easy-to-grow, very hardy tree with year-round interest.

Sorbus Olympic Flame – Mountain Ash, Rowan Tree

Sorbus have fragrant clusters of creamy-white flowers in spring, followed by beautiful feathery foliage in summer. They also have magnificent autumn colour, with leaves turning brilliant shades of orange, red, and purple and shiny clusters of berries that last from late summer into winter.

Sorbus Leonard Messel – Mountain Ash, Rowan Tree

The Mountain Ash is a native tree and a vital resource for wildlife. The spring flowers provide nectar for bees and other pollinators, while the berry clusters are a food source for birds such as blackbirds and thrushes especially in late autumn and winter.

Sorbus Wisley Gold – Mountain Ash, Rowan Tree

While the native Sorbus aucuparia is famous for its bright orange-red berries and grows tall, there are many more compact varieties with different colour berries.

Sorbus Eastern Promise – Mountain Ash, Rowan Tree

For example, Sorbus ‘Joseph Rock’ and ‘Wisley Gold’ have yellow/gold berries, Sorbus huphensis ‘Pink Pagoda’, ‘Leonard Messel’ and Sorbus vilmorinii have pink berries. Sorbus ‘Eastern Promise’ has dark rose-pink berries. ‘Olympic Flame’ and ‘Cardinal Royal’ have bright red berries. Sorbus commixta ‘Embley’ is a smaller-sized tree again growing to approximately 7m (20ft) tall.

Soft Fruit

Here are a few of the varieties of soft fruit we have in stock ready for planting now. Raspberries are available as a bundle of 5 canes, whereas other soft fruit are individual plants.
