With the days finally stretching out and a hint of warmth returning, it’s a real pleasure to be back in the garden again. Spring is just beginning to show itself—buds swelling, bulbs pushing through, and birds singing louder in the mornings. It’s the perfect time to shake off the winter, get outside, and enjoy the improving weather as the garden starts to wake up.

We have more and more plants available by the day with new selections of herbaceous perennials such as Lupins, Delphiniums, Hollyhocks and Salvias. There is also new stock of Rhododendrons & Azaleas, Magnolia, Hebes, Flowering Cherries as well as Apples, Pears, Plums, Cherries, Damsons and many other fruit trees.

March is a good time to sow seeds of many flowers and vegetable crops. We stock a wide range of flower and vegetable seeds, along with seed potatoes and onion, shallot and garlic sets. You’ll also find a good range of bulbs ready to plant now for beautiful summer displays, including Dahlias, Begonias, Cannas, Alstroemeria, and Agapanthus.

March is still an excellent time to plant trees and hedging. We stock one of the largest ranges in the South West, including both native and evergreen varieties, with new selections arriving regularly. Our mixed native hedging whips are still available and can be planted until the end of March. Stock tends to run low towards the end of the month, so if you’re planning to plant some, please visit us soon to avoid missing out.

We also have a new range of Japanese Maples with over 30 varieties available, in a selection of different sizes.

Hebes

Hebes are among the most versatile evergreen shrubs for modern gardens. They are compact plants that offer year-round structure along with beautiful flowers. Their glossy foliage ranges from deep green to silvery blue to purple and variegated varieties. Hebes are ideal for borders, are great in pots and containers and will even grow in coastal areas.

From late spring until late autumn, Hebes produce elegant spikes of flowers in shades of white, lilac, pink, and violet. These blooms are highly attractive to pollinators such as bees and butterflies, bringing life and movement into the garden during the warmer months. Their naturally tidy habit also makes them easy to incorporate into smaller spaces or contemporary planting schemes.

We have new stock just in of some of the most impressive modern varieties that have been carefully bred for improved colour, compact growth, and excellent garden performance. These varieties combine striking foliage with long flowering periods and look good through all the seasons.

Hebes thrive in sunny, well-drained positions and tolerate coastal winds better than many other shrubs.

Low maintenance and rewarding, Hebes benefit from a light trim after flowering to maintain shape and encourage fresh growth.

With such a wide range of forms and colours now for sale, Hebes are a good choice if you want to add structure and colour to your garden. The bees and butterflies will also be happy.
