Greenshutters Garden Centre Newsletter December 2025
December has arrived and with it plenty of rain which we need to top up the reservoirs. Hopefully we will also get some of the crisp, sunny days like we had in November.
Our top-quality Christmas trees are now available and selling fast. We have the usual range of low-needle drop Nordman and Fraser Firs plus the traditional Norway Spruce. We also have a range of pot-grown Christmas trees including Blue Spruce. Christmas wreaths are available again.
We are giving a Greenshutters Voucher worth £10 with every Christmas tree purchased. The voucher will be redeemable between January and April 2026.
Our new multispan polytunnel is going up fast with just the roof and side cladding to go on now. We will be using this to grow more trees, including ornamental and fruit trees for gardens as well as trees for hedging.
We will be open until 1pm on 24th December. We will be closed between Christmas and New Year and will re-open on 2nd January 2026.
We would like to thank all our customers for their support this year and wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Roger and all the team at Greenshutters Garden Centre.

Spotlight on Roses
Most people are focused on Christmas shopping in December but it is also a great time to think about roses. Roses make wonderful gifts and now is a great time to plant. It gives them time to establish a good root system before they start to grow in the spring, which they will do during mild spells in winter and early spring. It will also mean you have colourful, fragrant flowers on warm sunny summer days.

Rose City of York
There are different types of roses from ramblers and climbers to shrub and patio roses.
Rambling roses are quick-growing and are great for covering pergolas, arches, walls and fences or growing up trees. They produce masses of small flowers like a cherry blossom. Our ramblers include ‘City of York’ with primrose-yellow blooms, the snow white ‘Rambling Rector’ and the delightful pink ‘Albertine’.

Rose Mum in a Million
Distinct from rambling roses are climbing roses. These flower more like shrub roses with larger blooms and repeat-flower when deadheaded. Our varieties include the intensely red ‘Crimson Cascade’, ‘Purple Skyliner’ with its plum-purple flowers and ‘Scent from Heaven’ that has orange-pink flowers with tropical vibes.

Rose Hot Chocolate
We have lots of choice in shrub roses including the reddish pink ‘Belle Rives’, the dark red ‘Hot Chocolate’, bright orange ‘Mango’, and bright-yellow ‘Absolutely Fabulous’.

Patio roses are compact, bushy roses that were specifically bred to thrive in small spaces, especially pots and containers. They are perfect for adding colour to patios, balconies, decks and small front borders. Our patio roses include ‘Our Dream’, ‘Raspberry Royale’ and ‘White Patio’.

Rose Birthday Girl
Special occasion roses make fantastic gifts throughout the year. Our selection includes, ‘Birthday Girl’, ‘Mum in a Million’, ‘Happy Silver, Golden & Ruby Wedding’, ‘Happy Retirement’, ‘Remember’ and many more.
