Greenshutters Garden Centre Newsletter August 2026

July has been a month to remember. It has been hot, sunny and exceptionally dry. In fact, it is the driest July we have ever recorded, with only 2.8mm if rain falling on the nursery all month.

While the sunshine has been wonderful, keeping all the plants looking fresh and healthy has been a continuous team effort, with us often watering twice a day. If your own borders or patio pots are feeling the heat, we have plenty of vibrant colour ready to refresh your garden.

Geraniums, Fuchsias, Begonias and other basket and patio plants are still available to freshen up pots and hanging baskets.

We have lots of new herbaceous perennials such as Rudbeckia, Verbena, Salvia, Agapanthus and Japanese Anemones as well as drought-resistant grasses such as Miscanthus and Pennisetum.

The Hydrangeas are still looking spectacular, especially the Hydrangea paniculata varieties such as Pinky Winky, Magical Andes, and ‘Vanilla Fraise, as well as the compact Little Lime for smaller spaces or container displays.

Classic David Austin Roses, including fragrant favourites Dame Judi Dench, Gertrude Jekyll and William and Catherine, are in full bloom.

Possibly the star performer, though, is Alstroemeria Indian Summer, which has rich, exotic, orange flowers that last right into autumn.
